Warbler Lite

Covid put a stop to paper copies of the Warbler being delivered and post Covid seemed a natural point to take stock. There did not seem to be the same demand for paper copies and considering the amount of leg work various people put in it seemed to be reasonable to continue as an online publication.

However, I recognise that there are people out there who are not on the internet or don’t ‘do’ email so I am attempting to cover that base.

To that end I shall also be compiling the additional new Warbler Lite; (link updated December 2025) a stripped back version of the Warbler with essential information about what is going on where.

I am restricting it to 2 sides of A4 so I am asking you, the faithful ‘onliners’ that if you know someone who might appreciate a copy, that you would print it out and give it to them.

It would be great if you could let me know if you make this gesture. I can’t promise you a Gold Star but it will be appreciated!

Future Ready Fuel Campaign

You may be already aware that the government is currently consulting on alternative low caron heating options. For households in rural parishes, this is important because many such homes may not be easy to convert to the governments preferred low carbon solution (low temperature heat pumps) without significant cost and disruption.

OFTEC are asking for your input to share amongst your residents, particularly those who use oil heating.

For more information and to have your say, visit Stand up for the future of your home heating.

The closing date is the 10th of February.

Quickline – Fibre Broadband Supplier

Quickline – Fibre Broadband to all properties in Weaverthorpe that want it.

Following contact from Quickline, representatives from the Parish Council met with them recently. Quickline is a company that has been appointed by the government to provide fibre broadband to rural areas in all of Yorkshire, under Project Gigabit. They were established in 2006 and have 391 employees which they say will rise to 1000 by 2026. They are keen to stress that they do the right thing by everybody and are proud of their customer service. They are also community orientated. They will be providing fibre broadband to Weaverthorpe during the 4th quarter of 2026 to the 1st quarter of 2027.

They will use existing infrastructure (i.e. ducts and existing poles) to get the fibre to those properties that require it. If additional poles are required, they will consult with those affected. The residents that want fibre broadband will change from their existing ISP to Quickline. They currently have  a range of packages that range from £22 to £49 per month. These are current charges, so when the fibre is available in Weaverthorpe, these charges may change.  There will be no set up fees. If Digital Voice is required that will be available at an additional cost.

The postcodes they list as their potential customers are all YO17 with the following codes; 8HG, 8ER, 8EX, 8EJ, 8HJ, 8EY, 8HA, 8HB, 8HD, 8EQ.

The fibre will be brought from the exchange in East Lutton to a new box that Quickline will install.  That will, if possible, be close to the existing BT box so that the same power source can be utilised.

There will be an offer of a free installation for the village hall.

Ready for Anything – Emergency Volunteering Scheme

Ready for Anything is one of two volunteer groups that help in emergencies.

It was set up in 2015 by the York Centre for Voluntary Service and City of York Council after the devastation caused by the Boxing Day floods.

Resources were significantly stretched but the practical support offered by the public and businesses was invaluable. Following the success of the initial scheme, the North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum is now rolling it out across the whole of York and North Yorkshire.

Every day of the year, Ready for Anything volunteers are ready to help. There are currently 333 volunteers across York and North Yorkshire who provide practical support to people whose lives have been affected suddenly and help with the emergency response during an incident.North Yorkshire Council run a volunteering scheme, for people to help out in emergency situations

If you are interested in finding out more about the Ready for Anything volunteering scheme, you can view the information on our website here: https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/your-council/north-yorkshire-local-resilience-forum/ready-anything-emergency-volunteering-scheme
